Why does wilson hide his face

Wilson, Jr. Wilson is Tim Taylor 's next-door neighbor and confidant. He frequently gives advice to all members of the Taylor household, often reciting words of wisdom, famous quotes or historical examples for Tim. As a running gag, Tim frequently butchered these phrases upon trying to repeat them with the effect of making the advice unintelligible or just nonsensical.

Wilson was born in Chicago. He has traveled the globe, learning much from virtually every culture in existence and his house contains a veritable treasure trove of artifacts, along with a pet parrot named Mozart who appeared infrequently. Wilson was married at one point but his wife Kathryn died before the series began. Wilson somewhat represented a "God figure" in the show, always doling out advice to the Taylor family and seemingly knowing just what to say to solve a problem.

The character of Wilson was partly inspired by a neighbor that Tim Allen had when he was very little; he was too short to see over his neighbor's fence and therefore unable to see his neighbor.

Thus, Wilson is a type of unseen character; the lower half of his face is always obscured by some kind of object, usually the fence. The show became extremely popular in the United States, running for a total of eight seasons. Promotions for Home Improvement often state the show was based around the stand-up comedy of its star actor, Allen. He was born in Colorado but moved to Michigan as a child, and so Allen considers the Great Lakes state his home.

Colleges and Universities from the state actually received free advertising by sending in shirts for Allen to wear. Only once did Allen accidentally wear a shirt from a non-Michigan school. Wilson, played by Earl Hindman, was the Taylor's next-door-neighbor who was always there to give members of the family some sage advice. Throughout the show his face was always hidden from view, usually behind the fence but they got creative from time to time.

Even when the cast would come out for a curtain call after filming an episode, Wilson's face would be hidden from view by a handheld picket fence.

It wasn't until the show's last episode that we saw what he truly looked like. Home Improvement was such a popular show during its time that ABC wanted to do a 9th season. Richardson turned it down because she wasn't interested in "just a paycheck", and Allen also rejected the offer because he didn't want to do the show without her. When the Super Nintendo was at the high of popularity everyone was attempting to cash in on the trend, even the producers of Home Improvement. Some games just shouldn't have been made, but if you love Home Improvement maybe this game is for you.

Inspiration can come from the strangest places, in this case the writers looked at the popularity of MC Hammer's song U Can't Touch This. Hammer Time was also going to be the name of Tim Taylor's show within the show.

I am sure we are all happy with the final choices they ended up making. Everyone remembers the character of Heidi on Tim's show Tool Time.
